9th MAY Birthday Project 2015 was a success!

The month of May is over but the happy memories it brought us will always remain, especially of the 9th MAY Birthday Project 2015.

Even though I only started campaigning for the project a month before the actual event, a lot of help still came pouring and made it possible to continue with this charity event....and more!

May 16, 2015 – 9th MAY Birthday Project 2009
Since my mom and I are restricted from hospital environment, we didn’t hold the giftgiving event at Philippine General Hospital (PGH) like the previous years. We chose Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF), which is really close to my heart. LVF is run by the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco (Daughters of Mary Help of Christians / FMA), the nuns at my alma mater, Don Bosco School (DBS), my second home for 11 years and was a big part of how I am today. Also, I really admire Blessed Laura Vicuña when I was a child, I even saw an image of her in 2006, reminding me of her words, “suffer silently, smile always.”

“We want to let you know that you are not alone because someone cares for you,” I told them in tagalog, of course. Having said to them, the purpose of this event was to share my blessings; blessings that are not the material things, but the actual persons who were with me that day and people who supported this cause. That even just for a day, we can fill them with so much joy.

My sister Talitha & his former teacher, the very happy Sir Deegee hosted the program for the kids. It was an impromptu decision to have him join Talitha and thanks to him, the event was more fun!

Games:

• First to remove all the post-its without touching it wins!

Demo by CHRIS, Kathreen & Jerome / Sticking of the post-its

The kids were fun to watch
• Bring me!

• Pass the ball over & under

Puppet Show by Henry

This girl got scared & hurriedly runaway when she saw the puppet appeared

One of our NFF (Neurofibromatosis Friends - our support group) kids, Jorge (the child in black & yellow) joined us, or rather joined the kids and had a great time. I super love all of his pics together with the kids & I wanna share it. Aliw ako eh!

Eating time!

From spaghetti to Chickenjoy last year, this time it’s Chikenjoy + Spaghetti. There was an ice cream cart – perfect for the hot weather!

There was a magic Show by the Story Circle, of course.

Aden Gavilaga, the vocalist of the band Armchairs sang and entertained the kids.

Bookreading / Storytelling & book distribution of Brightest and 2 other books (Seven, Daily Servings) from Isshin Dream Publishing

All our tiredness melt away when the kids sung their thank you song. On the second thought, the event wasn’t really that tiring at all, we all had so much FUN!

They kept on saying 'thank you' (I can read some of their lips while saying those words) and even gave us a card; for me, my family, Sir Deegee, Talitha & for the volunteers and everyone who care & shared for this event.

Dear Volunteers & friends of Ate Kcat
Love,PH-Vicunians
Talitha read the letter
Katrien Kho celebrated her 9th birthday with us too. Not only does we share the same birthdate (May 13) & we’re both Kat (mine’s just spelled differently), but she’s also deaf like me. She asked for school supplies as a birthday from family and friends so that she can join us and distribute it to the kids. Indeed, our limitations are not a hindrance in sharing and reaching out.

This may be our 9th year doing MAY Birthday Project but this is our 1st time of not holding it in the hospital & actually throwing a party. This is our 1st, but definitely not the last!

But wait, there's more ...gift-giving time!

Until now, I am still amazed at how this little project that started nine years ago becomes bigger and better every year. Wow! We’ve been successfully doing this for 9 years already thanks to all the cheerful givers who have been supporting us. Thank you so much for making my birthday wish come true year after year.

As long as I’m celebrating my birthday & as long as May 13 is in the calendar, there’ll be MAY Birthday Project so please support me next year and the years to come.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
