The aMAYzing Birthday Project 2012

When I stepped out of the car, I was really surprised with what I saw! The lobby area overflowed with people who were there to join the event. In our previous gift-giving events, it was convenient to meet up in the lobby area of the hospital and organize everything with the volunteers since we were only a little less than 40 people. This year, since we had filled up the main entrance area, we were directed to the PGH quadrangle and organize everything there nstead. Thanks to my family and friends who are the pioneers of my MAY Birthday Project.  They already know very well what should be done and they assisted the new attendees so well.

The PGH Lobby was full of volunteers
Everything felt surreal. The happiness I felt at that moment was even bigger than the previous gift-giving events that we had done in the past 5 years.

KCAT CAN: The merry month of May

Here's the most-awaited MAY Birthday Project 2012 story..

The merry month of May
by Maria Kathrina Lopez Yarza
May 28, 2012

The month of May is almost over, but the memorable experiences of this month has given me more reason to believe that my life is worth living,  and I owe it to the success of my May Birthday Project each year.

Last May 12, I arrived at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) at past 2 p.m. The volunteers were already there, all prepared. In our previous gift-giving events, we were only a little less than 40 people. But this year,  everything felt surreal. We were not sure anymore how many volunteers came and who was who. All I knew was that more than 100 people showed up!

Teaser: MAY Birthday Project 2012

Up until now, I'm still in high spirit whenever I think about last May 12's gift-giving event because it's not only a success but double the success compared to the previous MAY Birthday Project we had since 2007. I never imagined this to grow this big. As in BIG!  Ang galing! In 2007, we started with 28 participants consisting of my close friends and relatives. And the number of volunteers grew yearly: 32 volunteers in 2008, 36 volunteers in 2009, 34 volunteers in 2010, 45 volunteers in 2011. And don't forget the supporters, donors and sponsors who really made the event possible! More supporters. More donors. More sponsors. More volunteers. More. More. More. More hearts are put in sharing, caring and giving.

...ngunit, subalit di ako magku-kwento.. Haha. You have to read my column tomorrow, KCAT CAN - Manila Bulletin (Students & Campuses) ;P

JUAN DAY

I got this from Kuya Rbert Alejandro, read & spread the word:

Me (Robert Alejandro) and a few friends, Eunice and her husband Don, Jetro Rafael (chef of Van Gogh is Bipolar), Angel Aquino (actress / TV personality) and her daughter (and i hear a few more people will be joining us) will be off 27th of May (Sunday) to Ifugao.

A big part of the trip is the bringing of "school kits" (school bag / notebook / pad paper / ball pen and or pencil / slippers) to some children who need them most.

May 6 is International Wishbone Day!

Many Asian families of children with rare diseases such as Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) face different challenges aside from the daily worries of other Asian families (food, shelter and education to name a few). A rare disease is a lifetime challenge in many aspects: financially, emotionally, physically, psychologically and sad to say, for some, spiritually. Looking back, when my son and daughter were diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, I could say that we had no choice but to mature as individuals and as a family. It was hard to accept at first, but we realized it is easier to accept than to resist. Acceptance is the first step in rising above a challenge.
